Most of the leisure fishing waters managed by Metsähallitus are opened for fishermen towards the end of May. These sites represent particular water areas with unusually valuable fish fauna. You need a site-specific licence to go fishing in these waters.

Licence by mobile phone
These special fishing waters have an unusually valuable fish fauna. E.g. valuable salmonids, trout, rainbow trout, grayling and European whitefish, are found in them, either naturally or thanks to stocking. In summer fly or lure fishing is allowed there. For most of the sites managed by Metsähallitus you can get the licence easily by your mobile.
Services are important in most of the leisure fishing sites. You can find campfires, lean-to shelters, rope bridges, footpaths and jetties. Some of the sites have been preserved as wilderness.
Follow the rules
Metsähallitus wishes to remind the leisure fishermen to follow the rules of the licence in their fishing trip, with due account for the other fishermen and fish populations. The most important conditions relate to quotas for the catches and minimum sizes. It should also be remembered that the fishing rods must be kept close at hand – they cannot be left on the shore while you e.g. cook a meal in your camper van.
Reserving a site with your own rods is not fair for the other fishermen. It is also difficult to take the fish from gear left on the shore. Often the line is broken and the fish dies later with the hook in its gills. Let’s us comply with the rules so that everybody gets a pleasant fishing experience!
