The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira and Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance have agreed on measures enabling the exports of Finnish dairy and meat products to Russia to continue. Export restrictions on Finnish dairy products will be lifted as of 6 August 2010.
It was agreed in the negotiations between the authorities that the collection of milk from Finnish farms will continue as before while certain laboratory tests will be adjusted to meet the requirements of Russian legislation.
With respect to meat and meat products, the Russian authorities will consider the situation on 16 August 2010 on the basis of additional inspections performed and clarifications submitted by Evira with the purpose of lifting the related export restrictions.
On the basis of on-site inspections performed in 23 Finnish meat and dairy product companies in May, Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance imposed temporary export restrictions on 14 of these plants. These restrictions entered into force on 23 July 2010.
