EU presidency

Finland held the presidency of the EU from 1 July - 31 December 2006. During this time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry hosted several working groups and meetings of the Council. The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry chaired five meetings of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

Successful Presidency in the Agriculture Council

During the Presidency of the EU Finland launched the discussion concerning the state of the European model of agriculture and the challenges ahead for the agriculture sector in Europe at the meeting of the EU Agriculture Ministers in Oulu. All Member States welcomed this initiative, which also marked the starting point for the planning and development of the common agricultural policy after 2013. Read more

EU Agriculture Ministers: Enhanced competitiveness and policy simplification

The Agriculture Ministers of the European Union discussed the European model of agriculture and the future challenges of the agriculture sector at an informal meeting in Oulu on 26 September. All the Ministers supported the common European values, increasing competitiveness and simplification of the common agricultural policy. Read more
