Farmers do not need to submit notifications of biological control agents and pollinators to Evira

Since the beginning of 2013, Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira has been supervising the import, marketing and use of macro-organisms, i.e. insects, spiders and nematodes, used for biological control and pollination. Individual farmers or beekeepers need to submit a notification or make an approval application only if they order products directly from abroad or if the product ordered is not included in the file maintained by Evira.

Aranda to collect data on Baltic herring and sprat stocks

The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute will expand their co-operation into fish stock monitoring. Today, 24 September, SYKE’s marine research vessel Aranda, will set sail for the first time to collect data on Baltic herring and sprat stocks in the Bothnian Sea, the Gulf of Finland and the northern part of the Baltic Sea Proper.

The summer has again brought along the discussion on rules for berry picking. In the past few years guides have been handed out to foreign pickers, and for this year these were updated by the Arctic Flavours Association.
