Lure fishing

For lure fishing all fishers between 18 and 64 years of age must pay the national fishing management fee, as well as purchase the lure fishing licence. This may be either the provincial lure fishing licence or permission granted by the holder of the fishing right.

Provincial lure fishing licence entitles to the use of one rod, reel and lure at a time, which means that it is the appropriate licence for spinning. Trolling is also allowed, but with only one rod per fisher. Those under 18 or over 65 need not pay the provincial fishing management fee.

For trolling with more than one rod per fisher, a permission of the holder of the fishing right is needed independent of the age. No permission is needed in public sea areas, where trolling and other fishing may be practised without special licence. The borders of the public sea areas are marked on basic maps. In most cases the owner of the water area may grant a permission to lure fishing in areas where the provincial lure fishing fee does not apply, such as rapids which are rich in salmon and whitefish.

Further information on areas where lure fishing is prohibited is available on the web pages of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry at www.mmm.fi/kalastus and Fisheries Units of the Employment and Economic Development Centres (T&E Centres).
