Managed forests grow well and produce high yields

The annual increment of Finnish forests (99 million cubic metres) exceeds the drain by about 25 million cubic metres. The annual roundwood removals from commercial forests total about 64 million cubic metres. Silviculture speeds up the growth of commercial forests and improves the quality of the stand. The growth of a new generation of trees gets off to a good start through artificial or natural regeneration.

Estate level forest management plans supports the decision-making of the owner and reaching the objectives set for the forests. Metsähallitus is responsible for the planning systems designed for the State-owned forests.

Wood is a renewable raw material and energy source. Use of wood saves the atmosphere, while promoting the use of wood contributes to the viability of the rural regions.
