Reaching forest use objectives through advice and planning

Forest Management Associations, Regional Forestry Centres, forest service companies and forest companies offer personal advice for forest owners. Good advice may be needed, for example, for undertaking practical forest management work or selling wood.

Forest management plan helps to define the objectives of forest use and to reach them. Besides wood production, planning serves the multiple use and protection of forests. Forest management plan gives the owner valuable information of the diversified ways of using the forest and it's management needs.Estate level forest management plans are drawn up for a period of 10 to 15 years, usually by the Regional Forestry Centre.

Metsähallitus draws up natural resource plans for the State owned lands. Dialogue with local residents and stakeholders is an essential element in this process. Natural resource planning covers all land and water areas owned by the State.
