The Department of Forestry is responsible for forest policy and forestry issues in Finland. Through norms and legislation, financial means and information and forest programmes the forest policy promotes the sustainable management and use of forests.
The Department of Forestry steers the work of the 13 Regional Forestry Centres, Forestry Development Centre Tapio, Finnish Forest Research Institute Metla and Metsähallitus, a State enterprise which governs the State-owned forests.
