Land surveying and joint use of geographic information

Information on land and buildings is always in place

Map is an indispensable tool for planning and building on both land and waters, as well as to a growing extent for tourism, wildlife sports and other leisure activities. Today maps are founded on databases where the location in the field is described by means of various kinds of properties and coordinates. These databases are usually called geographic information.

The Real Estate Register (the Cadastre) showing the dimensions and properties of real estates is also based on the management of geographic information. Land survey and consolidation operations and systematic management of geographic information ensure an up-to-date and appropriate division into property units and availability of high-quality maps throughout the nation.

As from the beginning of 2010 real estate entries were transferred to the National Land Survey of Finland under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Such entries include claims, mortgages and special titles. These actions maintain the National Title and Mortgage Register.
