The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry steers the policies on land survey, real estate entries, national mapping and use of geographic information in Finland.

The administrative sector of the Minister is responsible for maintaining the Real Estate Register (the Cadastre) for the part of areas administrated by the State and the National Title and Mortgage Register.

Legislation concerning the sector comprises statutes on the maintenance of the cadastral system and the institutes subject to the Ministry.

The National Land Survey of Finland is the general authority in land survey and real estate entries.The Finnish Geodetic Institute carries out research in the field of mapping sciences.
