National Geographic Information Strategy

The National Geographic Information Strategy 2005-2010 presents the principles, objectives and measures for developing the use and usability of geographic information in Finland. The basic geographic information and structures that support its use are called the National Geographic Information Infrastructure. The implementation of the Strategy should lead to more efficient utilisation of the databases, creation of new services and improved access to information, as well as lay the foundation for the development of the national information society and international cooperation.

The preparation of the Directive establishing an infrastructure for spatial information in the Community (INSPIRE) was taken into account in the preparation of the Strategy.

The Strategy was drafted by the broadly-based National Council for Geographic Information as part of the Government Information Society Programme.
