Environmental and nature protection based on agri-environmental support and National Forest Programme
The agri-environmental scheme aims to reduce the environmental load from agriculture. Environmental support consists of basic and additional measures and special support contracts. The main focus has been on water protection. Support may also be granted fro enhancing biodiversity and landscape management.
The protection of biodiversity is a high priority in Finnish forestry as well. Of the forest area in Finland 4.1% is under strict protection. Actions to preserve forest biodiversity are set down in e.g. Finland's National Forest Programme 2010 and Forest Biodiversity Programme for Southern Finland METSO.
