The Finnish
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is a member of more than 30 international
organisations. As a member of the European Union the Ministry is also involved
in numerous organisations and participates in their meetings. Among these, the
World Trade Organization WTO has the greatest political weight.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization FAO is an important forum for
influencing development policy in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors.
In recent years the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has considerably
reinforced its role in both the national and international discussion on
development policy issues.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD is an important
institute for international economic research and a think tank for policy
planning. The OECD Committees for Agriculture and Fisheries and Working Parties
under these bring together the leading civil servants and experts from the 20
member countries. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry takes active part in
agricultural and fisheries policy research and policy design in the OECD
context.
