Cooperation in the Barents Region

The Barents Euro-Arctic Council was established in 1993 as a collaborative forum for the governments of countries around the Barents Sea Region. Its members include Finland, the other Nordic countries, Russia and the EU Commission. Observers also participate in many of the Council’s activities. The main aim is to promote sustainable economic and social development in the Barents Region.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry participates in various elements of the Council’s work, including its forest sector programme.
