The
EU’s Northern Dimension policy encompasses external relations and various kinds
of regional cooperation between the European Union and neighbouring regions to
the north. It covers a region extending from Greenland to Russia’s Ural Mountains, but the focus is
increasingly on the development of Northwest Russia.
Finland and the other Nordic
EU Member States are active in the EU’s Northern Dimension work, together with Russia, Norway
and Iceland.
In November 2006 the parties to the Northern Dimension approved a renewed Northern Dimension policy that will particularly intensify collaboration on transport, logistics and energy issues, while continuing the work of the partnerships on environmental, social and health issues.
