The Barents Euro-Arctic Council was set up in 1993 as an intergovernmental cooperation forum for the Barents region. The members are the Nordic countries, Russia and European Commission. Representatives of other countries may participate in the work as observers. The main task of the Council is to promote sustainable economic and social development in the Barents region.
Among other things, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry participates in the Forest Sector Programme for the Barents Region.
