The Conference on Energy Transition in Capture Fisheries discussed the opportunities offered by new energy sources and electricity and ways to reduce the use of energy. The conference gave wide support to the declaration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on boosting energy transition in the fisheries sector.
Nordic Council of Ministers for Fisheries, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food and Forestry convened at its annual ministerial meeting in Kuopio on 11–12 June 2025.
On the opening day of COP30 in Belém, the Nordic Ministers for Fisheries, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food, and Forestry present a ministerial declaration that underlines the potential of food systems and bioeconomy to address climate change through both mitigation and adaptation.
The UN Climate Change Conference COP30 will be held on 10–21 November in Belém, Brazil. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is organising four side events, where the focus will be on the circular bioeconomy, climate change adaptation and resilient food systems. Two of the events will be held at the Finland Pavilion and two at the Nordic Pavilion. Besides these, the Ministry will participate in Finland’s official side event and an event held at the Food & Agriculture Pavilion co-hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization FAO.
The European Partnership ‘Forests and Forestry for a Sustainable Future’ brings together about 100 organisations from 28 countries to develop forest research and strengthen international cooperation. Finland acts as the coordinator of the project, with the work led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
On Monday 26 May, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Sari Essayah and two Members of the European Commission opened the New Wood exhibition in Brussels where Finland showcases bioeconomy solutions based on wood and the country’s strong competence and skills.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry steers the policy on sustainable use of natural resources. Legislative work is carried out as part of the Finnish Government and the EU institutions and decision-making.
The administrative sector touches upon the everyday life of the Finns in various ways, in both work and leisure. The objective of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is to create and maintain the preconditions for sustainable and diversified use of renewable natural resources. The Ministry steers both the use of natural resources and research in the sector.
